This month we will have Craig Jones in talking about Kanban. Kanban is a flavor of Agile project management that is similar to Scrum, but even more lightweight and with a different emphasis. In this presentation, you'll learn the basics of Kanban and how it can be applied equally well to a team's workload or to an individual's task list. We'll then do a couple of fun simulation run-throughs (one for software development and one for a different kind of project), and then we'll wrap up by comparing Kanban and Scrum (no experience with either is needed).

Craig Jones is a long-standing member of OCDUG, despite having switched from Delphi to Java years ago. Most recently, Craig has been working more in the coaching role than hands-on, teaching Scrum, Kanban, and Extreme Programming techniques to developers and executives at companies of all sizes, including some listed in the S&P 500. He blogs about software craftsmanship at chiefsimplicityofficer.com and he can be reached at craig@chiefsimplicityofficer.com or 714-955-4025.

We also wanted to let everyone know that the August meeting will be on Wed Aug 31 at the Laguna Hills Community Center. We will have Embarcadero in showing us the newest release of Delphi Rad Studio. We aren't sure what features are going to be included in this release, but they have said earlier hat 64bit should be the big include for this release. So make plans to be there on Aug 31 at the Laguna Hills Community Center.

The meeting is in our new Irvine location at 7pm. Here is a map and directions. Arrive early to get a good seat.

Thanks,
OCDUG

WP7 and other good stuff

Next meeting on Tuesday June 28. Robert Baker will present his recent encounter with the other side [that being Microsoft] including XMAL, C# and Siverlight on the Windows Phone 7 OS. He will also demonstrate why and how he used the “EmbeddedWB Component Pack” and “Hi Components” ; both Delphi Third party component sets, to retrieve and manipulate the data needed for his WP7 APPs. If time to prepare permits, he will demo a little on how he learned how to transfer a SQLite database back and forth between his server and his WP7 phone emulator. The same exact DB is used both on the WP 7 phone's Isolated storage and Delphi 2010 and aledgedly will work on iPhones and Android devices.

The meeting is in our new Irvine location at 7pm. Here is a map and directions. Arrive early to get a good seat.

Delphi Road Show Sept 1!

OCDUG will be part of the Delphi Road Show this year. They will be in town on Wed, Sept 1, 2010 to give us the low down on everything delphi. As you all know, these are well attended events so please plan to be early. For this event, we will be holding the meeting in Laguna Hills at the Laguna Hills Community Center. There will be pizza for all and there is usually a raffle but I don't have confirmation on that at this time. So get out early, bring your appetite and your Delphi questions.

On a side note, there will NOT be a regular meeting in August. The meeting on Sept 1 is our next meeting. And remember, this is a Wednesday (this event only). The meeting starts at 7:00 and will last about 2 hours.

New meeting location!

As of next week, we are going to have a new meeting location and a new meeting day. We will be meeting on the 4th Tuesday of the month from now on. And as most of you know, Michael Cummings moved to Texas so we no longer can meet at the place formerly known as Brick Software. For the time being, we will be meeting at GDR Group, Inc in Irvine. The address is 5520 Trabuco Rd, Irvine 92620. Once I get a good map and directions I will update the website with this information.

Next week we will have Steve Kramer as our speaker, the topic is still unclear. Again, once I get more information I will let everyone know.

Thanks,
Jim

**** Update, the LewLocation has been update do include the map for the new meeting location.

No meeting in June.

We still do not have a new meeting location yet so there will be no meeting in June.

Sit back, turn on the air conditioner and think of a new place for us to meet. Send your suggestions to me or Steve.

Thanks, Jim
